ton regional council for ratification Wednesday morning.

Under the proposal, of the approximately 8,100 hectares of developable land south and east of the existing town, almost 40 per cent — branches of the Sixteen Mile Creek watershed — would be protected as greenspace, 1,310 hectares set aside for residential and retail growth, and 760 hectares designated for two new employment areas.

A further 1,500 hectares would be identified for future employment areas beyond 2031.

The new growth area would essentially see the long-term end of agriculture in the area once known as Trafalgar North.

Combined with new growth already designated to occur before 2021 and the Province’s mandate to reduce sprawl by intensifying within the town itself, Milton’s population is expected to triple to 240,000 over the next two decades.

A public meeting on the intensification of Milton, especially in the Main Street core area, will also be held Wednesday night in the banquet room of the Milton Sports Centre at 7 p. m.

Monday’s special council session will take place following council’s administration and planning committee meeting at 7:30 p. m. at the same location.
